[diary day 9] paralysis
Day 9 on my way to try to build a $100k business using my DS skillset
Today I had lunch with someone who recommended trying to buy a business. I listen to Codie Sanchez's podcast on buying boring businesses. I think about the power of a boring business, and how I can
There are different ways ot buy a business, i learn. You can up-front the cash (via savings or loan), but that's risky. Instead, you can do rev share, or offer services to transition the ownership over time. There are good people, with good businesses, that are just tired of owning their own business. There may also be low-tech businesses that could use an upgrade on marketing, management, etc. These are the goldmines, they say.
Places to buy a business:

One contact recommended I build a website so I can market my engineering skills in the form of webinars, which may lead to consulting or helping build products and services for clients. I spend an hour comparing wix vs. hostinger. I worry over whether I should pay the 2.99/month on Hostinger to get my website and domain or if I should just build my own website for free. The reality is this is a $2.99 cost.
Paralysis comes in many forms. It should not come in a $2.99/mo cost. I can always cancel the site. I can transfer the domain. Trying to build my own website "for free" will cost me a ton of wasted time.
Once I have my site, I can move back on to trying to do outreach. Contacting people - this is what energizes me. Getting ideas. Potentially finding a client. Offering services.
The notion I remember is "You can't sell your idea. You can only find someone already pre-disposed to your idea." This releases some pressure. Back to my foundational belief - someone is out there. They're waiting for me to find them. I need to talk around to find them.
